Kim Wilkins began her sixth year in the real estate business with a bang.

When she and her husband, JL, purchased the former EEI Credit Union building on West 10th Street in December 2019, it was a future investment they had no plans for. “I liked the location because it’s on (Hwy.) 45 at the other end of town,” she said.

Then Wilkins decide to venture on his own, becoming a managing broker with RE/MAX Southern. Her husband renovated the building, she settled in during February 2020 and an opening was planned for late-March.

And then, COVID-19 put a damper on that grand opening plan.

Two years later, Wilkins got to hold that grand opening for what is now RE/MAX Advantage on Sunday, March 27. The day also included a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce.

The Wilkinses moved to Metropolis 15 years ago from Ohio where they were home builders in new residential construction. Wilkins owned other businesses in town — Pizza & Dots, Tailgators Sports Bar & Grill — but wanting to be readily available for her young daughter Bayle and having interest in real estate from having the experience of residential construction, she changed her career path.

Wilkins got her real estate license in 2014 and joined Farmer & Co. that fall. In December 2019, she joined RE/MAX Southern, the Anna-based office of the worldwide firm. A year later in December 2020, she purchased the franchise, which is now known as RE/MAX Advantage.

Joining her as agents are Becky Hawes and Laurie Hines. Hawes, formerly with Farmer & Co., joined in June 2021. Hines, formerly with GIA Real Estate, joined in February 2022.

Wilkins is also a licensed real estate agent in Kentucky and is a part of the RE/MAX Realty Group in Paducah.
