Elden Caskey Obituary (2022) – Lima, OH

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Elden Lawrence Caskey, a charismatic and beloved friend to all, passed away peacefully in St. Petersburg, FL, on May 24 after a long period of ill health. Larry was born on October 15, 1944 at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima. He attended St. Gerard’s Grade School and was a proud 1963 graduate of Lima Central Catholic High School. After a year at The Ohio State Lima branch, Larry and several adventurous friends ventured out to California to seek their for-tune. While residing in LA, Larry worked his way through college at Cal State Fullerton where he was awarded his Masters degree in Special Education. Larry had a gift for dealing with special needs kids who gravitated to him for his caring and patient demeanor. In the early 70s, Larry met and married his wife Tish. Together, they moved to Cincinnati. Larry taught special needs students at The Redwood School in NKY. Still today, former teachers, who were touched by Larry, voucher for his gentleness and selfless mentoring. In 1978, Larry and Tish relocated to San Antonio Texas where Larry began a successful career with ReMax Real Estate. Again, his charm and relatability were on display as he aided many families in finding just the right home. He found time to exhibit his special athletic skills when he was crowned Over 50 Tennis Champion of San Antonio. A decade ago, Larry retired to St. Petersburg, FL, while spending the summers each year in his beloved hometown of Lima. In later years, he especially enjoyed weekly lunches with his former high school chums. His lifelong friends made up his social circle and he had an abiding love and devotion for these people. Among them were Dave and Shirley Kriegel and their sons (Todd, Matt and Jay) and grand-children, Jim and Deborah Zink, and Don Lamantia among others.Besides his dear friends, Larry is survived by his sister Carol Bunnell Pickering and brother Jim and his wife Leanne, niec-es & nephews Bethany (Mark) Bunnell, Christine Bunnell, Don (Mitty) Bunnell, Lindsay (Tim) Weinkam and Maggie (Kurt) Latham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tish, and his parents Regina and Elden Cas-key as well as many beloved Lima area aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry possessed a positive out-look and cheerful demeanor. His motto “I go with the flow” meant that he was always ready for a party or a good time. He will be greatly missed by many. A celebration of his life will take place later this summer. Elden Caskey October 15, 1944 – May 24, 2022.
