Friends support family of Jyan Waespe who was killed in car crash
Jyan Waespe was about to begin a new, exciting chapter in his life.”He had the whole world in front of him,” said Michelle Sloan, a co-worker of Waespe’s mother. The 18-year-old just graduated from Mason High School, and he and his girlfriend, Kayla, were two months away from being parents.”This little baby, Toby, will never know his daddy, and that’s just heartbreaking for everyone,” Sloan said. Waespe died Tuesday night in a car crash in West Chester. According to a crash report, a 24-year-old man blew a red light at the intersection of Tylersville and Butler-Warren roads and crashed into Waespe’s car. The report says the 24-year-old — who WLWT is not naming because he hasn’t been charged — refused an alcohol test, but police said he appeared physically impaired. While West Chester police continue their investigation, friends and coworkers of Waespe’s family are doing when they can to provide a little comfort.”We’re doing a diaper drive. We’re doing a little bit of a shower as a memorial to Jyan,” Sloan said.They also created this GoFundMe to help with expenses for Waespe’s family, Kayla and baby Toby. Sloan said the family wants to thank the community for the love and support.”They feel that in their heart of hearts and know that people are supporting them, but they are grieving,” Sloan said. “If anything good can happen from this tragedy, it’s there’s a little baby that is going to be loved by an entire community, and we are doing our small part to help with that … and he will be welcomed into this world with open arm.” Diapers, wipes and new baby items can be dropped off at the Remax Time office in Maineville during normal business hours.
