Flint’s White Horse Tavern for sale, owner looking for buyer to continue tradition
FLINT, MI — A favorite downtown Flint restaurant may soon be under new leadership.
The White Horse Tavern, the bar and restaurant at the corner of Court and Ann Arbor streets, is up for sale.
Owner Steve Poulos told MLive-The Flint Journal that he is considering retirement after a lifelong career owning and operating the business with his father, John, and his brother, Chris.
Poulos, 70, said he and his brother opened the doors to the restaurant nearly 50 years — in 1973 — when he was only 21 years old.
“It’s time to lay back and relax. It is kind of bittersweet. I’ve had great help for a long time and I’ve met so many good people,” Poulos said. “It’s gonna be tough. I mean, if and when it goes, it’ll be a hard day for me.”

Diners have come to know the establishment for its pizza, with many political parties taking place at the spot that’s frequented by locals and visitors alike.
As for the story behind the fiberglass horse sitting atop the tavern’s sign, Chris Poulus previously shared with MLive-The Flint Journal that it was commissioned from a man in Mio in the 1970s for $5,000 when the bar first opened.
A second horse also exists, Chris Poulus previously said, with the same man crafting one in the mid-80s for $500 after reaching out while looking to make a little extra cash.
The hope is to find a new owner that has experience in running a bar/restaurant so the White Horse Tavern can still be a home to many area residents that it currently serves.
The listing can be viewed on Remax. There is a $800.00 asking price.
After the sale is taken care of, Steve Poulos said he’ll continue coming in each morning for breakfast with his friends.
