Walterboro woman charged for hitting man with car

A woman was arrested and charged in connection with the recent accident on Bells Highway in which a pedestrian was hit by a car and seriously injured.
Christan V. Spiers, 29, of Walterboro, faces assault charges in the April 18 accident that seriously injured a Conway man. She was in custody on May 5th and was released on May 5th at a public relations bond hearing.
According to initial reports from the Walterboro Police Department, Spiers was the driver of a vehicle that hit the victim. The incident happened around 3 a.m. in the Remax parking lot
The man was lying face down in the parking lot, bleeding from his head. Parts of the vehicle were on the road.
Witnesses at the scene told police officers that the victim was seen talking to the driver on the passenger side of the vehicle in a parking lot. The two knew each other.
Other witnesses said the woman was seen spinning her vehicle on the street. Another witness told officers that they heard a “riot” according to the police report.
Officers found Spiers sitting in front of the car, the report said.
She was originally charged with driving under the influence, First Offense, but she refused to take a breath test. When asked why Spiers had not done a blood test, the police department spokeswoman said no comment could be made as the investigation into the case was still ongoing.
The Walterboro Police Department has not confirmed these allegations. At the time of going to press, several attempts to obtain the report and the arrest record for Spiers from the WPD were unsuccessful.
However, her arrest information is publicly available through the Colleton County Detention Center’s booking log.
The man was originally taken to the Trident Medical Center trauma center in North Charleston. At the time of the crash, the victim was classified as “seriously injured” by Barry McRoy, the Colleton County Fire Department chief.
