Burnett Plaza acquired by New York real estate investment firm

Burnett Plaza, the 40-story downtown Class A skyscraper with more than 1.1 million square feet of rental space, has been acquired by Opal Holdings, a New York real estate investment firm.

The previous owners, Atlanta-based Cousins ​​Properties, said in an SEC filing that the sale closed on April 7 for $ 137.5 million, representing a profit of $ 364,000.

The Burnett Plaza offered by JLL was launched in October 2020. Freese & Nichols recently moved its headquarters into the building.

The building at 801 Cherry Street is the tallest in the city at 567 feet. It opened in 1983 and was designed by Sikes, Jennings & Kelly Architects of Houston and Geren Associates of Fort Worth.
