GTIS Partners Achieves Another ESG Milestone in Real Estate Investing
NEW YORK, May 21, 2021 / PRNewswire / – GTIS Partners (“GTIS”) announced today that it has been recognized as a 2021 Gold Company by Green Lease Leaders, a program organized by the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) and the US Department of Energy ). The announcement was made by Maria Vargas, director of the US Department of Energy, during the Better Buildings, Better Plants Summit.
Green Lease Leaders was launched in 2014 and sets national standards for environmentally friendly leases. At the same time, it recognizes landlords and tenants who are modernizing their leases in order to advance joint measures with regard to energy efficiency, cost savings, air quality and sustainability in buildings.
GTIS achieved Gold Level recognition by fulfilling a number of requirements, including covering the cost of capital improvements to improve energy and water efficiency, tracking water and energy consumption in the community area, and applying best practices for energy management.
“We are extremely excited to be recognized by the DOE and IMT for our commitment to the environment,” he said Josh Pristaw, Senior Managing Director, Head of Capital Markets and Co-Head of Brazil at GTIS Partners. “ESG has become a central theme for GTIS and our stakeholders. We are very focused on the importance of our role in social and environmental responsibility and the impact of our property investments on the environment and surrounding communities. We are committed to responsible ethical behavior Business practices and plan to further expand and refine our approach to ESG investing in the future. ”
GTIS was also recently recognized by the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (“GRESB”) as one of the top three most sustainable mutual funds South America.
GTIS prides itself on being part of a broader national trend towards green commercial leases. This year’s Green Lease Leaders represent portfolios totaling more than 2 billion square feet and encompass a wide range of buildings, from large and small business offices to industrial buildings to data centers. In total, Green Lease Leaders manage more than 4 billion square feet of commercial and government space, which represents enormous growth potential for Green Leases. IMT estimates that green leases can help cut utility bills by up to about 50 cents per square foot (22 percent) in US office buildings alone, and if all office buildings rented were to sign green leases, the market could reap $ 3 billion in annual cost savings.
