100+ jobs expected in Union County commercial build | News

Union County officials say an estimated 100 jobs are expected to result from unspecified commercial development in the Great Stream Commons industrial estate near Allenwood.

Union County commissioners voted Tuesday to close a deed to transfer 57 acres on the northern edge of the park to a company called 17890 Russell Road.

The company agreed in August 2020 to pay Union County $ 1.1 million for the plot of land in the Gregg parish. Sales are slated to close on Friday. The deal was brokered by Mericle Commercial Real Estate, Wilkes-Barre.

Shawn McLaughlin, director of planning and economic development, cited preliminary land development plans to estimate the size of the building at 399,000 square feet.

The plans provide for sufficient parking spaces for 161 vehicles and trailer spaces for up to 260 spaces around the building.

“They are not ready to say publicly who it is,” said McLaughlin. “From what we’ve heard, this will go well with the business park.”

Commissioner Jeff Reber said last year they were told it was a national manufacturing company.

The property is on the northern edge of the industrial park along Route 15. It is accessible via Russell Road.

A separate developer is planning to build a Snappy’s convenience store and gas station on Route 15 and Russell Road, where there is already a traffic light.

In 2019, JM Industrial Realty LLC, Watsontown, paid $ 3.75 million to Target for 166 acres adjacent to its state-owned property. The real estate company affiliated with Moran Logistics has not publicly announced its plans for the country.

Union County has approximately 280 acres of arable land in the park.
