Beautiful yards of summer: Winners announced

Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful and the Bulletin held a competition to honor households and businesses with beautiful summer landscapes.

The prize sponsors are Do It–North Platte Hardware and ReMax, Kolby Rickertsen.

Twenty-five yards were nominated and judged by a mixed group of residents on curb appeal, balance and color, sustainability, creativity and maintenance.

The judges had a tough job because there were so many great looking yards.

“I gave everyone a perfect score because I thought they were all wonderful, but ultimately I had to pick a winner,” the ward 3 judge said.

Judge Krysti Deckert chose the Catholic Community Food Pantry as the business winner, where curb space is devoted to a thriving vegetable garden.

“It was inspirational to see food being grown in a beautiful way right in the middle of town,” Deckert said. “We need more spaces like this.”

The judges included Claudia Cable, Pam Mitchell, Aggie Gies, Joy Bamesberger, Deckert and Mona Anderson of Keep North Platte and Lincoln County Beautiful.
