Big crowd, great weather, pent-up excitement highlight RH Christmas Parade

The Richmond Hill Christmas Parade returned triumphantly on Saturday morning, apparently drawing in excess of a thousand spectators basking in the sunshine and unusually warm temperatures for the time of year.

More than 100 entries, including school and military bands, public safety vehicles, corporations, charities, and places of worship, drove and walked the route, waving and throwing generous servings of candy to children and families alike.

The event under the motto “Silver Bells: It’s Christmas Time in the City” was chaired by this year’s Marshal Sarah Robinson, who will be 100 years old this week. Robinson is a World War II veteran who met her husband Robbie at Fort Stewart. They settled in Richmond Hill in 1966 and quickly became an important part of the community.

The parade, which lasted nearly two hours, began on Linwood Avenue and went down Cherry Street to Ford Avenue. It was canceled last year due to COVID-19 but is now in its 25th year.
