Camel boys, girls both earn first wins of season against Evanston | Local

The boys and girls’ basketball teams at Campbell County High School took their first wins of the season against Evanston on the second day of the REMAX / Gillette Invite preseason tournament on Friday.

The Camel Boys beat Evanston 71-60 and the Camel Girls beat the Red Devils 54-45.

The girls started the night with a close matchup and went to the locker room at 21:18 at halftime. The Camels beat the Red Devils 33:23 to hold on and claim their first win of the season.

Junior Millie Riss led the team with 12 points, followed by second year Cami Curtis with nine, newcomer Kaylie Neary with eight and junior Julia Sarvey with seven.

Riss and Curtis both racked up five rebounds, while Curtis ended up with four steals. Neary and Junior Madison Robertson each had three steals.

Curtis also added four assists while runner-up Mykhia Dymond dealt with three.

Friday’s win marked coach Braidi Lutgen’s first win since taking over the Campbell County program this season.

The boys were also in a close game with Evanston. The Camels led 37:31 at halftime, but were able to pull away in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Campbell County finished the game on a 12-2 run to improve to 1-1 for the season.

Senior Austin Crimm led the Camels for the second straight night with 20 points, followed by Senior Jason Fink at 15 and newcomer Mason Drube at 14.

Both the Campbell County boys and girls will finish the REMAX / Gillette Invite against Cody on Saturday.

The Camel Girls play Cody at lunchtime and the boys follow at 1:30 p.m. at CCHS.
