Chapman University MSRE Program Launches the Next Generation of Real Estate Professionals
Emily Beasy has long been fascinated by the Southern California real estate market. “I grew up in a city that started out very desolate. When I was growing up, a city was built around me, ”she says. “Seeing these beautifully planned communities and the really cool retail centers come into being and pulling a lot of families into the area was very exciting to be a part of and see how it comes to be.”
Beasy’s early interest in real estate development led her to Master of Science in Real Estate from Chapman Universitywhere she graduated as one of 15 first grade students on the program. The 10-month immersive program is a unique Orange County opportunity to learn the basics of real estate development, finance and investing in the heart of one of the most dynamic real estate landscapes in the country.
“There’s never been a more important or opportune time to join the real estate industry in Southern California,” said Dr. Tom Turk, Dean of Chapman University’s Argyros School of Business and Economics. “We created this program for people who want to have a real impact on the economy and people’s lives. Regardless of whether you have a real estate background or not, you will find the connections and knowledge you need to be successful. “
Are you planning a career in the real estate industry
Michael Schidlovsky worked for real estate brokerage right from the start of the MSRE program. There he met John Kelterer, a lecturer at the Argyros School, who encouraged him to participate in the program.
“John said it would help me take my career to the next level and help me understand real estate even better, from the 30,000-foot view to the floor,” says Schidlovsky. “It was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career because it opened up more opportunities.” Schidlovsky recently accepted an associate position at Colliers International in Los Angeles.
“I wasn’t sure where the course would take me,” says Lexi Jensen, who majored in dance, “but only by learning from the industry professionals was I able to refine my strengths and strengths. I enjoyed it the most. It really gave me a clear way of doing what I was doing. I am finally confident about my decisions and have a better understanding of the real estate industry, in all its facets. ”Jensen now works for a commercial real estate company in Newport Beach.
Hands-on mentoring with real estate professionals
The rigorous curriculum of the MSRE program is complemented by frequent guest speakers, leading real estate professionals who provide hands-on expertise and guidance for students just starting out.
“The program allowed me to meet so many different people and to interact with them in a really unique way in a personal and open manner,” says Davis Case, a student whose family owns and owns Orange County real estate operates. “Chapman has brought in people who want to help. Everyone who walked in said, ‘Please, please, please call me if you need anything. I am happy to speak to you on the phone if you need anything. ‘”
The Masters of Science in Real Estate curriculum includes on-site visits to ongoing development projects in the Orange County area.
These personal connections have proven to be the not-so-secret ingredient that made the transition from student to real estate professional a reality for most new graduates.
“It was really inspiring and amazing to be able to build relationships with people who have deep connections and solid industry experience to hear about their successes and challenges,” says Beasy. “After leaving the program, I feel much more confident about what I know about the industry, and I feel comfortable embarking on a real estate career.”
Beasy has received numerous job offers through the program. “This program has opened so many doors that I can say with 100% certainty that it would not be available without this program,” she says. The right opportunity is just around the corner.
