Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame: Block & Company’s Mark McConahay

Every year, Midwest Real Estate News inducts a new class into the Midwest Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame. Today we take a look at the busy career of Mark McConahay, vice president at Block & Company, Inc., real estate agent in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mark McConahay’s first experience in business was as a local mall manager at the age of 20 during his college years and has not stopped since. After college, he joined Block & Company Inc. in 1991 as a sales representative and continues to serve as vice president.

His knowledge of the market, work strategies and the skills of employees was promoted early on by the examples of Block & Company founders Allen and James Block. McConahay was fortunate to learn many lessons from the lives of these two mentors before she died.

“Retail properties are evolving every day,” said McConahay. “As a retail broker, I also have to be willing to change – learn new techniques, adopt newer technologies, build new relationships.”

Over the years, McConahay has specialized in many aspects of the development process, from representing national retailers, restaurants and property owners to developing shopping malls.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of doing business is the satisfaction of taking a site from dirt to income while creating a convenience for the area,” said McConahay.

McConahay has used his solid foundation to broker more than $ 408 million worth of deals, including retail, real estate and hotels, and has received numerous awards from top producers and CoStar power brokers. He has also been an industry expert, speaker, and author of a variety of articles and forecasts on retail and restaurant issues.

McConahay has been an active volunteer for 12 years and continues to work for the local Meals on Wheels. He participates in the Habitat for Humanity, Operation Breakthrough and Hazelden Mentor Programs. In his time outside the real estate business, McConahay loves to spend time with his wife and two sons, who take part in activities like tennis, golf, and beach vacations.
