Community to ‘pack’ Laurinburg Cinema after robbery

The Laurinburg cinema was robbed over the weekend.

LAURINBURG – Richmond and Scotland residents have teamed up to support Laurinburg Cinema after its staff were robbed at gunpoint over the weekend.

There will be a “Pack the Place Out” event aimed at filling seats for the 7pm show on Thursday, which, according to the cinema’s Facebook page, “Space Jam 2”, “Jungle Cruise” and “Black Widow” can be seen. Chelsie Johnson, a Rockingham-based real estate agent at REMAX Southern Realty and one of the organizers of the event, said there are 260 spots available, pre-purchased and filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Johnson said the support from both Richmond and Scotland residents has been “nice” as the two counties are usually rivals.

The Laurinburg Exchange reported this week that a man about 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a gray overcoat, black pants, and black bandana with a surgical mask, on Saturday, July 24th, shortly before the age of 18 Watch the movie started. The suspect allegedly robbed three employees and shot one of the employees while crossing the parking lot and again while crossing the street.
