Six different skaters scored as Canada’s National Junior Team earned its second-consecutive pre-tournament win ahead of the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship, defeating Slovakia 6-1 on Wednesday night.

Joshua Roy (Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Que./Sherbrooke, QMJHL) and Brennan Othmann (Pickering, Ont./Peterborough, OHL) scored six seconds apart to start the third period.
Colton Dach (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta./Kelowna, WHL), Brandt Clarke (Nepean, Ont./Los Angeles, NHL), Zach Dean (Mount Pearl, N.L./Gatineau, QMJHL) and Dylan Guenther (Edmonton, Alta./Arizona, NHL) rounded out the scoring.

The Reindeer Romp is a non-competitive event that covers a new route this year. Everyone (adults, children, strollers, pets on leash) is welcome to take part by walking or jogging (or rollerblading or cycling or skiing or snowshoeing!) the 2.5 or 5k routes.

Youngsters aged 10 & older will learn pro-tips on the ice with Attack Assistant Coaches, have lunch with Attack players, and go home with their very own practice jersey!

All proceeds go to the United Way Bruce Grey Utility Assistance Program for families struggling with home utility costs.

Event Timeline

9am-10am Participants watch the Attack run through their skills practice with two Attack assistant coaches.
10am-11am The first clinic group (ages 10-12) hit the ice
11am-noon The second clinic group (ages 13+) take to the ice

When not on the ice for their clinic, the groups will tour the Attack dressing room and have the opportunity to ask questions.

At noon The participants enjoy a pizza lunch with Attack players.

The cost is $100 per participant with a maximum of 25 players per clinic.

The Josh Armstrong Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament Registration is open

On Saturday, January 21st, the Tournament will kick off at 11 a.m. at Harrison Park, as part of the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada

Registration for the tournament is now open online.

The tournament will host two divisions, based on age, with four teams in each division. Each team will consist of seven players, including one goalie.

The Under 11 and Under 12 division is open to players born in 2010 or 2011. The Under 13 and Under 14 division is open to players born in 2008 or 2009.

The deadline for team registration is January 4, 2023 at 4:30 p.m.

Team registration includes the completed registration form and $140 team payment, delivered to the Community Services counter at City Hall. The first four teams in each age group that submit the required documents and payment will receive a spot in the tournament.

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada will be nationally broadcast live from the Good Cheer Rink in Harrison Park, Owen Sound, Ontario on Saturday, January 21, 2023!

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada is presented in partnership with The City of Owen Sound and Sportsnet.

Hosted by Ron MacLean and featuring Sportsnet’s all-star roster of NHL® hosts, analysts and reporters, Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada 2023 promises to be a spectacular event that will shine the national spotlight on Owen Sound and celebrate the community’s rich cultural landscape, diversity, and love for the game of hockey.

Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada festivities will begin on Wednesday, January 18 and feature community and family-friendly hockey events for all ages in Owen Sound and the surrounding area leading up to the main event, Sportsnet’s day-long marathon broadcast of all seven Canadian NHL® teams on Saturday, January 21.

Leading up to the Saturday Sportsnet broadcast, the community will be treated to three amazing days of celebration of community and hockey. Events include Music of Hockey, Skate with the Stanley Cup, school visits and games, on-ice clinics, a banquet with many special alumni hosted by Ron MacLean, 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Breakfast with the Cup, Celebrity Alumni Classic and post-game party, OUA Sport Women’s Hockey Games as well as an Owen Sound Attack home game.

Saturday will feature a full day at Harrison Park Good Cheer Rink, celebrating the game of hockey. At the same time, there are activities and games all day long at both the Bayshore Community Centre and the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre. Saturday will kick off with a Stanley Cup parade followed by live coverage of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada across the globe with host Ron MacLean.

Among the many events and activities will be a full day at Harrison Park on Saturday January 21st.

People are reminded there will be NO PARKING at Harrison Park that day.

Participants and spectators are to either walk into Harrison Park or take one of the shuttle buses that will be available at the following locations in Owen Sound;

– The Scotiabank Rear parking Lot 3rd Avenue East between 8th & 9th Street East
– The Harry Lumley-Bayshore Community Centre 1900 3rd Avenue East
