George Couvall Obituary (2022) – Waukegan, IL
George A. Couvall, 76, of Gurnee, IL peacefully passed away in his home on September 14, 2022 surrounded by his family. George graduated North Chicago High School in 1964. He met the love of his life, Jacquelyn Smith, at a “Hang Out” dance at the Waukegan YMCA. They have been married for 53 years. Their son George and daughter-in-law Jenny have two boys, Georgie (18) and Billy (17). His grandsons were his pride and joy, and they loved being with their Pappou. Together they enjoyed fishing, watching movies, traveling, attending ball games, and driving to Chicago for special deep fried shrimp. George served in the Illinois National Guard and was nationally activated for the 1968 Chicago Riots, and also for the Democratic Convention held in Chicago. He attended University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh, and The Chicago Business College. He became a Licensed Illinois Realtor in 1967 and was passionate about helping people buy and sell their homes. George’s career ownership included in Poe & Poe Realty, REMAX North Suburban, and Couvall Real Estate. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Georgia (nee Canelakes) Couvall; his in-laws, his in-laws, Jack and Virginia (nee McMahon) Smith; his brother-in-law and sister, Frank and Theresa Karigan; his brother-in-law and sister, George and Theo Patterson; his sister, Loverne Couvall; his brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Donna (nee Edwards) Couvall; his nephew, Jonathon Couvall; his brother-in-law, Bill Mitchell; his brother-in-law, Dr. Nick Rendziperis; and Sadia (nee Ashak) Kuzmickus. George is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn (nee Smith); his son and daughter-in-law, George and Jenny; his grandsons, Georgie and Billy; his brother, James (Janet) Couvall; his sister, Patsy Rendziperis; his sister, Edna Mitchell; his uncle, Frank (Dee) Kuzmickus; his many nieces and nephews; and his son’s in-laws, George and Yiota Pantelopoulos, and Voula Pantelopoulos. In Jackie’s words, “My prom date is gone … grief is the price we pay for love.” Funeral services will be 12:30 PM, Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1400 O’Plaine Rd. Libertyville, Illinois. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to time of service at the church.
