Joseph G. Sharman | Bourne Obituaries

Joseph G. Sharman, 75, of Sagamore Beach died on June 13th.

He was the husband of Patricia A. (Tuohy) Sharman. They married on June 21, 1968.

The son of the late Joseph B. and Hope A. (Armstrong) Sharman, he was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and graduated from Cranston High School East. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA from Suffolk University.

Mr. Sharman was a co-owner of Precision Metals in Providence and later Pawtucket.

He had worked for most of his life, starting in the Cranston Recreation and Schools department during the summers of his teenage years. During high school he worked as a bank clerk. As an adult, he was a chartered accountant with Metropolitan Life Insurance and a business manager with Cranston Fancy Wire.

After running his business for more than two decades, Mr. Sharman returned to auditing at Beacon Mutual Insurance. In his retirement years, after becoming a permanent resident of Sagamore Beach in 2010, he served as General Manager of the Bridgeview Montessori School and a real estate agent for ReMax Classic.

Mr. Sharman served in the ward while raising his family in Smithfield, Rhode Island and was named Smithfield Lion of the Year in 2004.

Before moving here year-round, the Sharmans had been summer residents throughout their marriage. They were active members of the Sagamore Beach Colony Club, where Mr. Sharman was President from 1994-1995 and enjoyed hours of golf and camaraderie at White Cliffs Country Club.

In addition to his wife, he has four children, Katherine Egan from Cumberland, Rhode Island, Joseph Sharman from Lake Bluff, Illinois, Kelly Fennell from North Attleboro and Amy Naples from Bellingham; nine grandchildren; and other family.

The funeral will take place in St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston, Rhode Island.
