The Lawrence Community Parks Foundation’s first Fall Festival will be held on October 3rd from 1pm to 5pm at Lawrence Community Park, 5301 N. Franklin Rd.
“The main reasons we have this festival are fundraising, awareness-raising, celebrating our parks and community activities,” said Trace Yates, executive director of the Lawrence Community Parks Foundation.

The non-profit Lawrence Community Parks Foundation was founded in 2019 with the aim of supporting and improving public parks and green spaces in the city of Lawrence. The goal is to make Lawrence known for exceptional parks, connected walking trails, vibrant green spaces, and inclusive recreational opportunities that connect the community.
The family-friendly fall festival includes games and activities, food trucks, live music with the Heartstone Crossing Band, balloon rides, and an agility competition for dogs.
“The funds raised will help support our foundation and ongoing initiatives, including the Lawrence Butterfly Project to expand natural habitats in our city or in Lawrence Parks,” said Yates.
Event sponsors include Cohron Homes, Mission Mechanical, Insurance by George, Minuteman Press, Culvers of Lawrence, Ekwall Insurance Group, Storage of America, Steve Sergi / Remax Group (hot air balloon) and the Sun King beer tent.
Entry is free, but there is a fee for balloon rides – $ 5 for teenagers and $ 10 for adults.
Yates said he hoped attendees will, beyond awareness of the Parks Foundation and its mission, take away the community’s pride and appreciation for the area’s parks and public spaces.
