Maple Syrup Festival set for April 9 in Vergas – Detroit Lakes Tribune
VERGAS — Fresh flapjacks and sausages topped by authentic, locally-produced maple syrup will once again be served up by Vergas Lions and Community Club members this coming Saturday, April 9, at the signature breakfast event of the community’s annual Maple Syrup Festival.

The pancake feed will be held from 8-11 am in the Vergas Event Center.
Attendees will then have the chance to burn off some of those calories in the Saps Running 5K Run/Walk, which will get underway at 9 am in front of Billy’s Corner Bar (registration will be held inside the bar from 8-8:30 am ).
Eighty runners and walkers took part in the “Saps Running” 5K Fun Run/Walk during the 2021 Vergas Maple Syrup Festival.

For younger attendees, there will be a Maple Leaf Hunt at 10 am, intended for kids age 6 and under.
Though there will be no sugar house tours this year, local businesses will be opening their doors to the public, with most of them offering special festival items and discounts throughout the day.
“We have two new businesses that will hold their grand openings that day — REMAX Lakes Region Realty, and Summers Construction Home and Design Center,” said event organizer Julie Bruhn. “And all of our local stores are jumping in to offer some specials, as well.”
Natalie’s Serendipity will be offering maple-flavored treats, Otter Coffee will be serving up maple-flavored milkshakes and lattes, and the Vergas liquor store will have samples of beers from Outstate Brewing as well as a maple-flavored variety of Jim Beam whiskey.
A flyer listing all of the specials will be available at the event center during the pancake feed.
“New this year, we will also be offering horse-drawn wagon rides in front of the Event Center from 9 am to noon,” said Bruhn, adding that the rides are being provided courtesy of Farm 41.
“We’ve been doing this event in Vergas since 1999,” she said of the Vergas Community Club, adding that the festival is intended to draw attention to the local maple syrup industry. “We do it in collaboration with the Vergas Lions; it takes a lot of people to put together all the different events.”
