No 2021 baseball season for Edmonton Riverhawks due to COVID-19 travel restrictions – Edmonton
The West Coast League announced on Wednesday that it would be canceling baseball season for its Canadian division, which includes the Edmonton Riverhawks, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is disappointing news, but not surprising,” said Randy Gregg, managing director of Riverhawks.
“We worked really hard to be ready to hit the field this June but the health and safety of our fans and the player must come first.”
Travel restrictions will make it impractical to get players from their American colleges across the border to their Canadian teams, the Riverhawks said in a press release.

“The elite summer college league, made up of 15 teams and some of the best players from the USA Division 1 college teams, faces many logistical hurdles in getting players from their American schools to Canada for a 2021 summer plan,” declared the Riverhawks.

The team said it will continue to renovate ReMax Field and consider options to “safely activate” the facility with other programs.
“We have been very busy overseeing the installation of new artificial turf and LED lighting to improve this iconic ballpark,” said Gregg.
“We’re also installing a high resolution LED display board to enhance the fan experience once we can open our home park to local baseball fans. We’re also redesigning the food and beverage operations and much more. “

Edmonton Prospects announced plans for a new baseball field in Spruce Grove
The Riverhawks press release said the team is also considering other options for the pitch, if health measures allow, including local smaller baseball, softball, and slo-pitch organizations renting the space when AHS the OK granted.

The team said some high school officials have also expressed an interest in using the large outdoor area as a potential location for 12th grade graduations.

2021 should be the first season for the Edmonton Riverhawks at ReMax Field. You should be playing 27 games in Edmonton and another 27 on the street.
