Northern Illinois Food Bank Hosts Grand Open/Ribbon Cutting

On August 16, Northern Illinois Food Bank’s (NIFB) North Suburban Center celebrated its new location and expansion to Lake Forest/Green Oaks with official Ribbon Cutting and Open House events. The 28,000 square foot center is triple the size of the old space. The food bank served 12.8 million meals in 2022, and is now feeding more than 400,000 a month, with the need only continuing to grow, noted Julie Yurko, president/CEO, NIFB.

Yuko thanked the community for coming together, noting that the new, larger space will enable even more families in need to find food, and increase the number of volunteers and donations.

Speakers also included NIFB’s Maeven Sipes, Doug Eckrote, Scott Keenan; Congressman Brad Schneider – 10th District; Bernard Wysocki, Mayor of Green Oaks; George Pandaleon, Mayor of Lake Forest; Armando Pena, President, Club Apaseo el Alto. The event was covered live by area news stations, Daily Herald, and other media.
