Self Help Inc. And RE/MAX First Partner To Supplement Lost Salvation Army Funds
COMMUNITY News:
When RE / MAX first read that a bell wouldn’t ring this year, they said they knew right away that they had to do something.
“My daughter has been attending the doorbell for the past few years and we’ve seen firsthand how generous Los Alamos citizens can be,” said Chris Ortega, RE / MAX First Owner. “We knew we had to intervene and help.”
In 1969, members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos established Self Help, Inc as a hub to help needy parishioners in northern New Mexico. Today, self-help looks after around a thousand families in northern New Mexico each year, more than 400 of whom receive emergency financial aid for basic needs such as housing and medical care.
In Los Alamos, Self Help runs the annual fundraising campaign for the Salvation Army bell. All funds are used to help families in Los Alamos County who need help with basic needs – nearly a hundred families receive help every year for needs such as rent and supplies, car repairs and medical care.
The COVID-19 pandemic made fundraising impossible in 2020, but our community needs help more than ever! Typically, this event raises nearly $ 20,000 in our community through Self Help, Inc.
