The people and places behind Red Bluff’s Beef ‘n Brew fundraiser – Red Bluff Daily News
Eleven years ago, Cathy Tobin was President of Tehama County CattleWomen and Irene Fuller, Businesswoman at Heartfelt Design and a member of TCCW, met with Rick Fitzgerald of the Red Bluff Downtown Business Association and started the popular Beef ‘n Brew event.
The store owners wanted the public to see what they had in their stores and we wanted a way to celebrate beef as a starter.
After closing for the last 17 months due to the coronavirus, I haven’t been downtown and it was the first time for me to enter Zelmas Awards & Laser Engraving across from the post office on Saturday night as I was leading the Beef Judges to the various locations on Walnut , Main and Washington Streets. Zelmas Michele Hickok was a National Beef Ambassador from Tehama County and California while she was a college student.
Siskiyou County Cattle Stacey Jackson, Cheryl Foster and LeeAnn Brown tried all beef entrees and select Movement Mortgage’s Porter Injected Smoked Tri Tip with Pickled Onions and Blue Cheese for the Eternal Judges Choice Trophy. A starter in a clear spoon with beef base, some blue cheese for the taste experience of umami and the pink pickled onion on top. It met the criteria of taste, use and appearance.
Our first stop on Walnut Street was Modern Cleaners, which was colorful beef skewers with grilled steak. Then across the street to Bob’s Tire with a choice of three flavors at Cindy’s Famous Meatballs; Spicy, a little spicy and not spicy. They had the bucking bull again this year so people could enjoy riding.
Flare from the Red Bluff Performing Arts Center had a £ 53 chuck roll and brisket BBQ barboca. Nearby was Zelmas with Blanes Blaz’n BBQ with 50 pound Tri-Tip. Ranch Life Jerky at Red Bluff Interiors had flavors of Oh Honey !, Habanera, Garlic, Teriyaki, Old Fashioned Peppered & Pineapple Goodness.
Across the street from the Gold Exchange the Main Street Band was playing on the street and 2 Buds BBQ had £ 85 rolled chuck burnt ends. Lassen House Senior Living was with Rib Eye Crostini in front of Dales Carpet. Boar Hunter BBQ was on the corner of Walnut and Main, in front of the US Bank with their Jalapeno Ranch Tri Tip, with 30 pounds of beef.
Carrie Adams had a brightly colored Fiesta Tri Tip with a 40 pound Tri Tip prior to Timio’s title. Firehouse Pizza had Boba Carnes, a tri-tip with homemade salsa. Mama D’s large smoking trailer was in front of the Main Event Gallery, and they served 60 pounds of Oak Smoked Tri Tip with North Carolina Rub.
On the west side of Main Street our first stop was at Ramon’s Grille in front of the Palomino Room. A clever presentation called the Smoked Brisket Fajita Eggroll with a 70 pound brisket.
A large crowd gathered near Red Bluff Round-Up Mercantile when Red Bluff Round Up partnered with A&R Custom Butchering & Deli to create tasty Korean short ribs. I was told they used 200 pounds of beef ribs so they would have enough beef for the 1,250 attendees. You have been awarded the People’s Choice trophy.
Main Street Deli served bagel tri tip sliders with £ 55 bottom round steak near Plum Crazy. Green Barn Whiskey Kitchen had whiskey marinated flank steak with 150 pounds of flank steak, caramelized onions on fresh bread, topped with onion and red wine reduction and microgreens. You were outside of Enjoy.
2 Drunk Guys BBQ had the clever 80 pound Brisket Shooters near Legendary. The Round-Up Saloon on Washington Street had spicy meatballs with twenty-six pounds of ground beef.
Thanks to our beef sponsors, Corning Ford, Orland Livestock Commission Yard, Golden State Farm Credit, Animal Health, Suburban Propane, American Hereford Association, Blunkall Napier Insurance, and Cornerstone Community Bank, we were able to help with the cost of the beef in every starter.
This year, Travis Dolling from the Downtown Red Bluff Business Association secured many new craft beers with interesting names.
Copper & Clay Co. served Track 7-Beeline Blonde and Panic IPA. Ritual Salon with ETNA Heli-hazy IPA and Mossback IPA REMAX with Elysian-Space Dust and Superfuzz Blood Orange Pale Ale. Legendary serving of Farmers Brewing.
Cedar Crest Brewing serves Simcoe Supper Lite Session IPA. Huckleberry’s & Company Home Design Studio for Firestone-805 Cerveza and Flyjack Hazy IPA. Plum Crazy Hair Design and Boutique Serving Device Brewing-Kid Casual Blonde and Pincushion Pilsner.
Red Bluff Round-Up Mercantile Store with Eel River-Climaz 100 warehouse and IPA. Mialinda serves Kona Big Wave Golden Ale and Gold Cliff IPA. Coldwell Banker / C&C Properties serves Trinity Brewing – Light and Irish Red.
Movement mortgage for revision disco Ninja NW Hazy IPA and RBL camp. Darkside Red Bluff serves Firestone-Luponic Distortion IPA and Cali Squeeze Blood Orange yeast. Allstate Insurance with 10 barrels – Nature Calls and Pilsner.
First Place Barbershop serves 21st Amendment – Soma Hazy and Hell or High Watermelon. Summit Funding Inc. serves Seismic Tremor Lager and Liquification Kolsch Style. Sassafrass serves the 21st amendment – Soma IPA and Variety Seltzers.

Zelma’s Awards Heretic Brewery and Distillery’s Chocolate Hazelnut Porter and Make America Juicy Again IPA, poured by the great men and women of the Red Bluff Volunteer Fire Department.
Red Bluff Kiwanis Club serves Shiner / Trumer-Shiner Bock and Trumer Pilsner. Northern California Title Company serving the founders – Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale and All Day IPA.
Bob’s Tire Center for Sudwerk-Peoples Pilsner and Grizzdom Trple IPA. Modern cleaners serve Seaquake – Fogline Pale Ale and Sapce Sailer IPA. Gold Exchange with Drakes-Flyaway Pilsner and Hopocalypse Hazy IPA.
Their home brews served the Downtown Ale House, Firehouse Pizza, Palomino Room and Round-Up Saloon. Brews were served by Tehama County Arts Council, The Babe Cave Beauty Lounge, and Timios Title.
The impending rain didn’t stop the crowd, and thanks to Red Bluff FFA members and the Red Bluff 20-30 Club for their help during the event.
Traditional tri-tip wraps and a cup of beer were enjoyed while attendees danced to the music of Buck Ford and his band at Cone Kimball Plaza. Mike Collins and Vic Woolery’s crew grilled 400 pounds of tri-tip for the wraps.
