TODAY IN NEWTOWN BOROUGH: NextGen Rotarians holding block party fundraiser for Family Promise | Newtown Area

NEWTOWN BOROUGH >> Newtown Rotary NextGen is holding its first block-party fundraiser on Sunday, September 19, 11 am-5pm on South State Street between Center Avenue and Penn Streets. The event will support and promote Family Promise of Lower Bucks.

Features include food from local restaurants like Mom, Mom’s Take and Bake, live music, information booths, carnival games and activities for the kids, food trucks like Goodnoe Ice Cream and Rita’s, and more.

“We are very excited to be doing this, and we thank the district and the police chief for contributing to this,” said NextGen’s Nathan Breece. “This is primarily a fundraiser, so we’re going to raise money for Family Promise, an organization that helps homeless families. It’ll be fun too. It’s a great time for the community to come out, meet some of the businesses in town, have a bite to eat, enjoy the street, and have a great time for the kids playing. “

Bracelets for the Mardi Gras games will be available for a suggested donation of $ 20, giving the kids unlimited access to all of the fun and games.

“We’ll have about 30 different companies setting up games and offering prizes,” said Breece. “So if you potentially played all of the games, you could go home with 30 different prizes. And if you have children, it will take a few hours of your time. “

According to Breece, one company will host a corn hole competition, another will set up an obstacle course for children, and Newtown Book and Record will hit a record.

“They’re going to either have a carnival or a garden game,” said Breece.

Blaak Out Training is running an obstacle course for kids and is bringing their brand new fitness trailer.

Smooth Roots invites kids to play its Tin Can Alley game. Test your skills with bean bags and some tin cans.

Regenerative Designs, a plant design company, offers a pot / fishbowl game and the ability to make your own succulent. The company offers everything from upscale planters and custom-made products to promotional gifts and design productions to private workshops.

One of the newest stores down the street, Ivory Tree Portraits has a fun pumpkin throwing game for the kids.

Countryside Gallery & Custom Frame Design will have a face painting setup at the table for the kids. Buy a $ 20 bracelet for everyone in the family and have access to all the fun and games all day.

Triple Sun serves cocktails for the adults and hosts a shuffle board challenge. They also donate 10 percent of sales to Family Promise on that day.

During the day, Alternate Dimension Toys donates 10 percent of its sales to Family Promise. Alternate Dimension is a comic con in a store! They specialize in Funko Pops: current, retired and exclusive.

Newtown School of Music students will perform from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. The Newtown School of Music offers 30-minute private tuition for all ages and abilities. Come to the Block Party to see their performances, then stop by their table to learn more about their lessons.

BC Discoveries will also perform at 4:30 p.m.

With the help of local organizations, Family Promise of Lower Bucks – a locally based nonprofit organization – provides compassionate and focused support to homeless children and their families. Families receive 24-hour care, a safe place to stay, three meals a day and comprehensive care services free of charge.

The program allows families to stay together in times of crisis when they may be split into separate male and female dormitories in traditional accommodation. Family Promise also works with families to help them find work and sustainable housing that will allow them to regain a sense of normalcy, independence and stability.
