16th annual Walk of Love benefits Alzheimer’s Arkansas | News

The 16th Annual Alzheimer’s Walk of Love, benefiting Arkansas’s Alzheimer’s programs and services, takes place on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at John McConnell Football Stadium at Conway High School.

This year’s theme is “Get gold, excellence for nurses”.

The organizers said the hike is open to all ages and awards will be given to the oldest and youngest hikers.

People can walk individually or in a team.

“The walk is symbolic,” said event organizer Melissa Longing. “You can take part or just stay in the stands”

Participants are encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing.

“We want everyone to be safe and healthy,” said Longing.

Former KATV host and current director of the Little Rock School District, Pamela Smith will be the host, while Jay Runyon of Y-107 will be the DJ.

Debbie Ran, board member of Alzheimer Arkansas, will be the special guest speaker and will speak about the difficulties involved in caring for an Alzheimer’s patient.

Those who raise the most money for the cause will receive special plaques and medals, organizers said.

Some of the programs Alzheimer’s Arkansas offers include a 24-hour line that provides caregivers with advice on patient problems, monthly lunches and study, Zoom questions-answered meetings, and annual Hope for the Future symposia . The Little Rock office also has an extensive library for everyone.

Early registration is Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Danny Longing Properties, 572 Harkrider St.

“This is an opportunity to cash in and collect event t-shirts,” said Longing. “For every $ 25 donation, a t-shirt will be available. On this day, double the number of door price tickets will be awarded. All teams are asked to register early. “
