CNN Center sold to Florida based commercial real estate company – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA – It is one of the most famous buildings in downtown Atlanta that houses CNN and a variety of restaurants. For a certain age it’s a building that was part of their childhood.

WarnerMedia has agreed to sell the “CNN Center” to the Florida-based CP Group. CP Group, formerly known as Crockett Partners, is the second largest office owner in the greater Atlanta area.

“The CNN Center is one of Atlanta’s most recognizable landmarks and we look forward to seizing the opportunity to strategically transform the property and add to the current dynamism of the city,” said Chris Eachus, partner at CP Group.

For residents of the metropolitan area of ​​Atlanta, the CNN Center is one of the most recognizable buildings in the city center. It has been CNN’s home base since 1987 through multiple sales and much of the company’s news staff moving to New York City.

The building itself was completed in 1976 as part of the Omni Sports Complex. The Omni Hotel was originally part of the complex with a shopping mall and ice rink in the middle. For those looking for a deeper story, it was also the location of the “The World of Sid and Marty Krofft” theme park, accessible via a huge escalator.

The theme park didn’t last long and closed after just six months.

The hotel stayed for several years until it was expanded and occupied a building next to the center.

Channel 2 reporter Berndt Petersen spoke to people with fond memories of the center when it became known a year ago that it was on sale.

Petersen spoke to James Bost, who has been at the center since childhood.

“My inner child has so many fond memories of CNN, and even as I grew up,” said Bost

As part of the deal, WarnerMedia says they will lease the CNN Center back for a few years. The company still has a large number of news, operations, and business employees working in the building.

There was no indication of what this means for the numerous restaurants in the food court on the first floor. The food court also provides direct access to the State Farm Arena for events.
