Wellington Brewfest Gives Back more than $14k to Local Nonprofit

What happens when two brewery owners, a liquor store owner, a knitwear shop owner, and a creative agency owner get together to plan a brew party? You end up having a great event that raises a ton of money for a local non-profit organization. Wellington Brewfest 2021 was a great success!
“When my colleagues and I started planning this year’s Wellington Brewfest – our third event in 4 years – we were hoping to raise between $ 8,000 and $ 10,000 for the Wellington Main Street program. We threw it out of the park! We’re excited to give more than $ 14,000 back to this wonderful Wellington nonprofit, ”said Megan Larson, owner of M Rock Creative and chair of the committee.
The Wellington Main Streets Program is a 501c (3) non-profit that develops, promotes, and enhances the city center. Its program area encompasses historic downtown, which encompasses Cleveland Avenue and the neighborhoods on either side, including the Leeper Center and the library. The program is involved in various projects, from the acquisition of funding and events to beautification and security projects in the city center. In addition, it promotes Wellington and its businesses and encourages local people to visit and shop. For more information on what she does, visit wellingtonmainstreet.org.
What is the money used for, you ask? The $ 14,000 will go a long way toward supporting a downtown scholarship program and an Eagle Scout project at the Wellington Public Library.
Half of the proceeds will go to an outdoor sign and awning grant fund managed through the Wellington Main Street program. This grant will be a 50/50 grant of up to $ 1,000 per project to help purchase new signs and awnings for downtown businesses. The Main Street Program is working with the City of Wellington on a new signage code for the city center. Applications will open this fall.
The other half of the proceeds will go to a Xeriscaping Memorial Project in front of the Wellington Public Library in honor of the late Byron White, Wellington Supreme Court Justice. This is an Eagle Scout Troop 96 project organized by 14 year old Carter Larsen, the son of Blake and Kareen Larsen. The project is also supported with funds from the library’s circle of friends. The success of this event will allow us to further support our small business community and honor our unique history, ”said Kallie Cooper, Executive Director of the Wellington Main Street Program.
